organicmeatbag: (it is a wise father (ellia))

A few of the younger Jedi stop to stare as Revan carries Ellia through the corridors of the Enclave. He can hear them whispering as they pass, but Ellia snuggles closer, sniffling against his shoulder, and her tiny fists curl into his robe and he doesn’t care what they’re saying. All that matters is that Ellia woke with a fever and had cried for her mother. He marches on, ignoring more looks, as he seeks out Kira.

A door ahead opens and a figure steps out, talking over her shoulder. A hint of grey eyes and locks of brown, and Revan pauses in his walk. Bastila.

"Send me your notes when you're done," she finishes saying as the door closes behind her and she turns Revan’s way. She seems to hesitate at the sight of him (and why shouldn’t she, he was carrying his daughter that he had with another woman), but she offers him a tight smile and steps forward to greet him.

"Revan."

"Hi, Bas."

She purses her lips and he knows that it is because of the nickname, but he doesn't take it back. It was too late to do that. He shifts Ellia in his arms as his daughter peeks out from her hiding space to look at Bastila.

"Hello Ellia."

Bastila's greeting to the child is softer than her one to Revan and Ellia murmurs a greeting in return before sniffling again and hiding from the universe once more.

"She has a cold," Revan explains, not knowing what else to say and lost at what to do.

He has a bond with Bastila, a bond that should bring two people closer together, but he has never felt more of a stranger to her than he does now. It had been that way since Kira, since the babies, and as much as Revan loves Kira and the twins, would give the universe for them, it hurts to think that he lost Bastila along the way.

Bastila clears her throat, looking over his shoulder and not meeting his gaze. "Well, I should let you carry on then..." And she goes to step around him, but he blocks her path.

"I was hoping we could talk," he says, "I've been trying to reach you, but you always seem to be away on Jedi business or – "

"Does it involve the Jedi?"

"I...what?"

"What you need to speak to me about, does it involve Jedi business?"

"Uh..." He shifts Ellia in his arms again. "No?"

"Then, what?"

She stands there, waiting for him to speak, looking at him for an answer.

"I was just hoping we could talk. About anything really," he says with a sigh, tone a little desperate. "I miss you, Bas."

Her voice is soft, resigned as she whispers, "Don't call me that."

"Oh, come on, Bastila. It's been over a year."

A year that had involved Kira finding him in the unknown regions, of a relationship that had blossomed and had been publicly exposed when Kira and he had returned, of Ellia and Kaelyn being born.

Her expression goes hard and he swears she glares at him a little. He can't tell what she's thinking, what she's feeling.

"I'm busy, Revan. I don't have the time."

He closes his eyes, sighing. "I didn't mean it – "

"Revan, please. I have to go."

He can't tell if he's imagining the desperation in her whisper, but her gaze is drawn to Ellia and he knows. He steps aside, letting her pass, and he watches her walk away, wondering if he'll ever make things right with her, until she was gone from sight.

Ellia sniffles in his arms again and her pudgy hand tugs on his sleeve. "I know, I know, you want your mommy," he whispers with a slight grin at his daughter as he resumes his search for Kira. "I want her too."
