It was strange being outside after having kept to the academy complex. Revan blinked back the harsh sun and swirling dust of Korriban as he looked down the path ahead of him. Towering rock formations lined the path leading to the valley; their jagged edges making for sharp curves and turns.
In ways Korriban was like Tantooine, barren and dust-ridden, without the sweltering sun and with far more Sith though. He scuffed at the ground with his boot, very reminiscent of a small child not wanting to do what they had to, before he took off down the path with Carth and Jolee trailing behind him.
They came across the cave first. Its opening was nestled along the jagged rocks some ways down the path. One of the students in the academy warned them that the cave was filled with shyracks, ungainly and avian looking creatures; deadly creatures, as everything else on the planet was deadly or dead in some way.
Revan glanced back over his shoulder at Carth and Jolee, jerking his head toward the cave and heading in. It was dark, as expected, and filled with unfamiliar sounds that echoed trapped in the close confines. Revan flicked the switch of his lightsaber, igniting the blue blade and lighting the path ahead of them – a path blocked by a group shyracks.
A screech pierced his ears as the shyracks were disturbed by the light and Revan barely dodged an attack before swinging his lightsaber around and slicing one of the creatures in two. Another lightsaber ignited – Jolee – and began slicing through the attacking creatures and blaster bolts – Carth – echoed in the cavern as shyracks were shot down.
One of the shyracks swooped at Revan, pushing him backwards before he had the chance to dodge the attack and he grunted in pain as he landed on the ground, his ribs feeling bruised from the hit. He jumped to his feet as he called on the Force to place the creature in stasis and suppress the pain long enough to kill the creature before moving on to the next.
It was one creature after the next – a seemingly endless supply of them as they drove their way further into the cave with the trail of dead carcasses behind them – until there were no more. At least, for the moment there were no more as, exhausted and wounded, Revan, Jolee, and Carth stumbled into a large cavern, split down the middle by a crevice that proved to drop several thousand feet when Revan kicked a rock over the edge and listened for the fall. Both sides of the cavern, which was lit by the sun seeping through the cracks in the rock ceiling overhead, were connected by a land bridge.
They rested for a minute, Revan healing the wounds with the Force as much as he could until exhaustion got the better of him and they were left to use some of the medpacs they had on them. As Revan pulled out a stimulant – he could use the pick-me-up – from their shared pack and shot the chemical into his thigh, he hoped this cave was not a waste of time and that they found something that could be used to gain prestige.
He pushed up from the rock he was sitting on and peered around the dim lit cavern. That was when he heard the crunch of gravel, the sliding of rock and dirt into the crevice, and the sound of heavy huffing – distant but nearby and magnified by the emptiness of the cave.
"Definitely not a shyrack," he grumbled to himself as he walked the few feet to the land bridge and peered to the other side, trying to discern any shapes on the other side. He couldn't see anything clearly and he was turning to call to Jolee and Carth when the thing charged at him from seemingly no where. He landed a few feet from where he stood, flung far by the shove from the creature's massive claw-like paw.
Revan rolled over, crawling to his knees as he gripped his side. His clothes were torn and blood was seeping through from where the creature's claws sliced him. Distantly, his ears ringing and head throbbing, he could hear Carth firing off rounds at the creature and Jolee hacking away with the lightsaber. He coughed up blood as he struggled to his feet, his head and the world around him spinning as he stood unsteadily. He tried to call on the Force to heal, but...
"Aw, kriff," he murmured, a hand stretching to where Carth and Jolee were still battling the creature, trying to wave one of them down, as he dropped back to his knees and blacked out.
