Mandalorian Wars

In 3963 BBY, with the Battle of Cathar, Revan rebelled against the Jedi Council, who were stringent is staying out of the conflict, and rallied several Jedi, numbering in the hundreds, to join the Mandalorian War. Together with his friend Malak, Revan and his followers pushed back the Mandalorians, marking the turning point in what had been the losing battle for the Republic. Revan and Malak soon became hailed as war heroes and were placed in command of the Republican military forces.

During the war, Revan discovered the Sith-infested Malachor V and the ancient Trayus Academy. It was then that he abandoned the Jedi teachings, thinking the Republic weak in comparison to the Sith Empire as founded at the Trayus Academy, and became Darth Revan.

Soon after, on Malachor V, Revan discovered traces of an invention known as the Star Forge; an automated factory, “capable of creating an endless supply of ships, droids, and other war material” (Wookieepedia). With the help of the Star Forge, to which Revan bestowed the control of to one of his generals, the war ended with the crippling and exile of the Mandalorians.

With the end of war, Revan, along with Malak and the surviving armada, fled from Republic space and into the Outer Regions.

Jedi Civil War

"Three years ago, Revan and Malak returned at the head of a massive invasion fleet. Revan had assumed the title of Sith Lord; the hero had become a conqueror." [Dorak, Knights of the Old Republic]

Following the formation of a Sith Empire and Darth Revan's self-proclaimed declaration as Dark Lord of the Sith, Revan and his now-apprentice Darth Malak returned to the known regions with an army built, forged from the device found during the Mandalorian Wars, with the single purpose of invasion.

Over the course of the bloody campaign, the Sith crippled and conquered the Republican space. It was not until the Jedi Bastila Shan, known for her battle meditation, entered the war that the Republic, with renewed fervor, began to withstand and defend itself from the Sith onslaught.

In an effort to end the war, the Republic set a trap that allowed Bastila Shan and a group of Jedi to board Revan’s flagship. As Bastila and her Jedi battled Revan, Malak turned a battle cruiser on the flagship and attempted to kill Revan along with Bastila. Bastila and Revan, though badly injured, survived the attack and Bastila took an unconscious Revan before the Jedi Council. There, the Jedi Council stripped him of his memory.

Knights of the Old Republic

"What greater weapon is there than to turn an enemy to your cause? To use their own knowledge against them." [Bastila Shan, Knights of the Old Republic]

With Malak’s succession of the Sith Empire, under his new identity, the Jedi Council placed Revan, under Bastila’s command, aboard the Endar Spire; a Republican warship sent to the Outer Rim world, Taris, in hopes of slowing the Sith conquest. Impending the destruction by the Sith armada, Bastila escaped the Endar Spire to the planet below, followed soon after by, with the help of the Republican pilot, Carth Onasi, an amenisiac Revan.

Stuck on the planet by the Sith blockade, Revan agreed to help Carth locate Bastila and procure some way off Taris. With the help of a Twi’lek, Mission Vao, and her Wookie companion, Zaalabar, Revan and Carth tracked down and helped Bastila escape the Undercity of Taris. Knowing Bastila to have survived the attack against the Endar Spire and the crash on Taris, Malak ordered the destruction of the planet. Seeking help from the Mandalorian soldier and mercenary, Canderous Ordo and the droid, T3-M4, Revan and the others procured the ship, The Ebon Hawk, from one of the local thugs and escaped the Sith bombardment of the planet.

Leaving behind the destruction of Taris, the newly formed crew of the Ebon Hawk headed to Dantooine, home of the Jedi Enclave, where Bastila, sensing the Force and potential within the amenisiac Revan, posed that the Jedi Council train him in the ways of the Jedi. With the Jedi Council’s agreement, Revan began the formal training of a Jedi, during which he met and saved the Jedi, Juhani, who had turned to the Dark Side. Having followed his accomplishments in the short period of training, the Jedi Council sent Revan and Bastila to investigate the ancient ruins on the planet that had frequented the pair’s dreams. There, discovering an incomplete Star Map connected to the Star Forge, Revan and his crew began their journey of seeking out the remaining Star Maps in hopes of finding and destroying the Star Forge.

Following the recurring visions that Revan and Bastila continued to share, the crew left Dantooine and traveled to surrounding systems in search of the missing Star Maps. Their journey of finding and procuring the Star Maps included four planets: the desert planet, Tatooine, where the assassination droid, HK-47, was picked up; the Wookie homeworld of Kashyyyk, where the former Jedi, Jolee Bindo joined the unusual crew; the water planet, Manaan; and the Sith homeworld, Korriban.

It was on their search for the final missing piece of the Star Map that Revan and the crew were captured by one of Malak’s flagships, the Leviathan. Managing to escape the cells, Revan and his crew headed back to the Ebon Hawk, during which Revan was confronted by Malak, who took the opportunity to reveal to the amenisiac Revan his true and former identity.
